Not the quickest way home (via the Greek coast)

Overnight along the Danube

An excellent overnight along the Danube in Silistra is behind us...

Home ward bound from visiting friends in northern Bulgaria

Not wanting to return immediately,we decide to confirm our suspicions of how unpleasant the summer crowds on the Black sea coastline are.... well suffice to say sure enough suspicion is now fact. Although the weather is at its best the rest of Europe has come for an affordable beach holiday. Only to cause inflation of all prices during this time. On the other hand most of these resorts are close for at least three months of the year... The saying goes

"make hay while the sun shines" Well some of us choose not to be "hay"

The bonus was seeing they had not yet discovered our "special beach spot".

Two days later on our way home we took an unexpected turn south towards Greece. Realizing we had valid Shen-gen visas, the temptation was too much. The perishables in the fridge at home would be an issue on return but we decided on a 400 Km five day detour, south, to the Greek coast

On this trip came the discovery of the little harbor in Makri... Probably the closest Greek harbor to home in Bulgaria.

Awe'some little tavern on the edge of the harbor... Makri will definitely see us again

... No complaints (ok so the fridge was pretty bad by the time we got back)... but we enjoyed every minute of the detour ... so well worth it.
